The Librarian, Jane Sylvester, and her assistant, Chenylle Landrew, understand that the community reading centre is a place of safety and refuge in Vrygrond. They welcome the children, help them with homework, and organise games and outings.
One of the most important daily roles they fulfil for the youth is creating a conducive reading and study environment.
“We ‘skell’ them and tell them to do homework and get the older ones to volunteer so they are off the street and learning something that will benefit them.” — Jane Sylvester
As a registered NPO, the Vrygrond Community Reading Centre, has a committed board in place, providing support and oversight.
